The Planning Regulations
This section is a brief overview of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Devolpment)(Amendment)(England) Order 2008. Solar PV and Solar Thermal Panels
The installation of solar panels is considered to be permitted development on domestic buildings provided that;
- The panel does not protrude more than 200 mm from the roof or wall surface, and is not the highest part of the roof.
- If installed within a conservation area or heritage site, that the panels are not visable from a public highway
- Stand alone systems are not higher than 4 metres, or have a surface area of more than 9 square metres
Heat Pumps
The installation of Ground Source and Water Source Heat Pumps, is permitted development. The regulations do not specifically mention Air Source Heat Pumps. This may well be an oversight in the regulations, however it is advisable to check with local planning authority.
Biomass Systems
Biomass systems are permitted under these regulations except:
- If the height of the flue would exceed the highest part of the roof by 1 metre or more.
- If installed within a conservation area or heritage site, that the flue would visable from a public highway
Combined Heat and Power
Combined Heat and Power systems are permitted under these regulations except:
- If the height of the flue would exceed the highest part of the roof by 1 metre or more.
- If installed within a conservation area or heritage site, that the flue would visable from a public highway
